There are four units: theater, short narrative, poetry, and novel. For each class, you have to read a poem/short story/short play/act of a long play/chapter of a novel, and sometimes answer 2-5 questions about it. There are 10 250-word forums you have to do throughout the semester. Alicia is so funny and nice, and has helped me with declaring my major and course overload. You don't have to participate much, but the beginning of each class is discussing the stories with 1-2 people in the class. There is also a 20 point test and 500-1,000 word essay for each unit.
Professor Lopez Opere was great. She was engaging, really helpful, and very interested in the material. However, I really struggled in this course. I know people who thought it was a breeze, but after four years of Spanish, I felt unprepared for doing some of the activities like reading a full novel that took me an excessive amount of time to do. The class is manageable if you work hard, I was very happy to get an A-, but it was difficult. That was just me though. If you have a knack for Spanish, then I do recommend this course as it is very interesting.
