If you're taking this class, take it with Prof. Benitez! This class was very chill and honestly interesting. There was a reading, which would fluctuate in length, before every class with a few small comprehension questions you had to submit. Every class would follow the same format where Prof. Benitez would start with 5-10 minutes of background and we would spend the rest of the class discussing the reading. Its a nice opportunity to expose yourself to a variety of spanish literature and discuss it in a fairly judgement free zone. I will say I pretty much stopped participating half-way through the semester, and Prof. Benitez still gave me a 100 for participation. In addition to the regular discussions, there were 3 mini-essays, 2 large essays, and a group presentation. There were also a few smaller assignments and creative activites throughout the semester. There was work very regularly, however none of it was difficult to complete or was graded difficultly.
Prof. Benitiez is extremely kind and speaks in a way that is easy to understand. He grades easily and clearly cares. If you want to get the most out of this course, take a lot of time to read through the readings and really understand them and the comprehension questions. This makes participating in course a lot easier. I didn't do this and really don't feel like I got as much out of this class as I could have.
