SPAN 3010

This class was a good and relatively easy review of grammar and also a easy introduction to extended writing in Spanish. I would definitely recommend if you're considering the Spanish minor or major. Also, Joanne is the bomb. She has spent a lot of time in Spain and abroad and will tell you about her real-life experiences using Spanish outside of the classroom. She also will play Spanish songs at the end of class sometimes, which we always loved. Not too much homework besides short readings and the occasional essay. I really enjoyed this class.

I absolutely loved Prof. Britland! She was super approachable and friendly - definitely not intimidating like some other Spanish professors. She has a lot of real-life experience with the Spanish language, so she gave a lot of helpful information about studying abroad and majoring in Spanish. As far as the class goes, there were very small reading assignments, but most of the grade was based on three papers (two are two pages each and one is five pages) and two relatively easy exams. There were some online discussion boards and one small group project as well. Definitely would recommend!

Professor Britland is a great professor! I had her as a 3010 professor and she was the first spanish professor I had at UVA. She seems to really want her students to be engaged. While she can be a tough grader, she will definitely improve your writing if you need it. She's super approachable and understanding. I am taking her as a 3300 professor, because I enjoyed her class so much last semester! She truly is a great professor and someone that'll help you whenever you need it. I remember I went into her class worried that I don't talk enough in class, and we worked out a way that could help me in the classroom (to speak more) and it really improved my spanish!! Her fun factor isn't her personally, but I found the class 3010 to be a little dry sometimes since its a lot of just going over grammar etc.
