This course was incredibly easy and I'd recommend it to knock out a Spanish requirement. Omar is very passionate about phonetics, although the class can drag on. He's very charismatic and is very easy to send on a tangent about some random subject which helps the class go by. He can be a little weird at times, always talking about alcohol and going out and yelling "NO TE DUERMAS" if he sees you yawn. He's also always wearing luxury brands, mostly Gucci, Fendi, and Cartier. There's practically zero homework except for some brief readings, but buying the textbook isn't necessary because he prints out notes for everyone each class period. The only grades are participation and three "exams," all of which are take home. The first two exams are about explaining certain phonetic concepts and the final is a phonetic transcription. As long as you pay attention in class and participate the exams will be a breeze and you'll get an A. #tCFF23
This was such a fun class! Prof. Velazquez is such a fun and eccentric guy who is really passionate about linguistics, music, culture, and life in general. He probably burst into song at least once every class. He is an excellent professor and really tries to make sure students understand and can keep up with what's going on. His exams were rather easy and they were take-home. #tCFfall22
