Julianna is great teacher! She's super approachable and really wants her students to do well in this course. That being said, she's pretty strict about deadlines and always speaking Spanish in class. She provides a ton of resources on Collab about online assignments & such, and does not spend time in class discussing these. You need to stay on top of the syllabus and assignments on your own because she won't talk about deadlines for the online assignments in class. Lots of conversation practice and other vocab & grammar learning activities in this class. Overall she's really sweet and take 2010 with her if you can!
Julianna Beveridge is hands down the best Spanish teacher I have had in my years as a student. She is very knowledgeable about Spanish, a fair grader, and extremely open to helping her students out in any capacity. When I couldn't go to her office hours due to time conflicts, she would open up her planning hours in the mornings before lecture and even offered to Skype to explain the concepts. Her PowerPoints are very well done and she will take the time to explain big assignments (cultural project, exams, listening quizzes) in detail in class, and if she does not know the answer to something, she will find out. She is very kind and always wants the best for her students, and even writes encouraging messages on students' work in Digication. On top of all of this, she is an excellent lecturer and explains difficult grammar concepts very well, using a variety of methods to help students of all learning types. Overall, if you have to take Spanish 2010, I highly, highly recommend Julianna Beveridge.
Also a quick note about the grading for this course in general. An A is between a 96-98, and an A+ is a 99-100. It's not impossible to get an A, but keep in mind that an A- is a 90-95, so if you really want that A, you're really going to have to keep on top of your work and get A's on all the big assignments.
Julianna was a great professor! She was so sweet and provided a lot of helpful resources. Span 2010 is a lot less work than Span 1060 and was easier to get an A in (in my opinion). I felt like she graded easy on the projects and the speaking quizzes. This class was structured really well and we completed 4 units this semester with a different project, quiz, speaking quiz, and activities on LingroLearning for each unit. Her study guides for the quizzes were really helpful and formatted just like the actual quizzes (I'm not sure if every 2010 class gets these study guides or if it's just her class). We were required to speak Spanish in class discussions and the breakout rooms on Zoom which helped my speaking skills a lot. I didn't really enjoy the activities we did in this class, but I felt like it got better as the semester went on and you kinda start to see a pattern with what we do each day. Make sure to be a couple minutes early to class because you'll get marked late even if you're a minute late (I'm pretty sure this rule applies to all the span 2010 classes not just Julianna's). You still have to put a lot of effort to get an A in this class, but as long as you follow the directions for the assignments and stick to the deadlines while putting a good amount of effort into each assignment you should be fine. The projects were probably the most time consuming for this class, so I'd recommend setting aside more time to do them especially since they were always due at 8 a.m. on Saturday this semester (there were only 5 tho including the final project). I'd highly recommend choosing Julianna as your instructor for span 2010! I learned a lot in her class and she was super sweet and a pretty easy grader imo!
I know the other reviews are all positive, but scroll up and see the 30% drop rate. 3 out of 10 students drop her class for a reason.
Very legalistic with deadlines. An absolute butt-ton of work. There was a week in the middle of the semester where we had to do a project, oral assessment, test, and the freaking final project (3-5 page paper) due IN THE SAME WEEK. What kind of monster makes the final project due in week 6 of 14 right in the middle of midterm season WITH NO EXTENSIONS ALLOWED? She'll mark you late if you're even one minute late to class. Please don't take this class!
