SPAN 2010

Kate Neff is truly an angel. I am not naturally inclined to language learning, but she made both Spanish an easy subject to study and made me excited about learning Spanish. She really cared about each student improving in their ability. She even sat with me during OH just to improve my speaking! The class itself is a bit of work, but that is because language learning is hard. She makes a difficultly designed class both easier and enjoyable.

Prof Neff was an amazing professor especially in the middle of a pandemic. I would definitely recommend her. I was super nervous about jumping back into Spanish after not having a class in 3 years, but she was very helpful and the amount of practice we did made me feel a lot more comfortable very early on. I ended with an A-, which was not too difficult to do as long as you turn in all the lingrolearning assignments and do relatively well on the exams. The course is very time-consuming, but 100% doable if you have to take it with other time-consuming courses. Instead of a final exam, we have a final project where we had to write a long paper in Spanish and do a presentation, my advice for this would be to definitely keep on top of that work, and do a little at a time because doing that assignment all at once would be such a pain.

I loved having Spanish with Professor Neff. She was good at explaining topics and extremely nice, personable, and always answered emails quickly. The class wasn't particularly difficult, however at times it did seem like a lot of work especially when there were projects. That being said, the amount of weekly work was easily manageable. The quizzes were easy to get a good grade if you use the study guide and do all the homework. A lot of this class is about effort. If you put in the effort and make an attempt to learn the language you can do well.

I have never been good at Spanish and going into spanish classes always gave me anxiety but Kate Neff is hands down the best spanish teacher I have ever had !!! Take this class if you are bad at spanish but need it to fulfill the requirement!
