First off- this class, for whatever reason, is not JUST a media/society sociology class despite the title. It's a class based on understanding the history of the conservative right, and how their media, culture, and society have influenced American politics and culture as a whole. I came in expecting the media version, but was pleasantly surprised with this class. It's a topic I never thought I would have interest in, but Prof. Mullins made the class extremely interesting and engaging. It was absolutely fascinating listening to how conservative right politics have changed through the years, and how their political tools extend into affecting other spheres- like smoking, climate change, and the growth of the South as a conservative frontier. There is reading involved, but its a high level SOC class, and the reading was pretty standard level with my other SOC classes. Prof. Mullins is also very easygoing, and always willing to help out as needed. He was a great, chill teacher in class, and very understanding following the switch to online classes- no extra unneeded work. Highly recommend this class for anyone interested in conservative politics, but also anyone with very little background in politics. Mullins provides a solid background, and you don't need to be previously immersed in politics and its history to enjoy this class and really learn from it. Really different from my normal classes, loved it!!
