I took the Sociology of Criminal Justice last semester with Professor McConnell and really enjoyed it. The course was new and felt a little rough around the edges, but overall, the material was fascinating. If you're interested in learning about the development of criminal justice theory, prisons and rehabilitation, and the basic structure of the justice system itself, I definitely recommend. Professor McConnell is a little quirky but fun, personable and easy-going, and he makes the lectures interesting to listen to.
I took Criminology with McConnell in the spring of 2016 and enjoyed him so much that I took this class with him. I thoroughly enjoyed lecture; he is a very dynamic lecturer and explains complicated topics simply. He recorded his lectures for us (this class was in New Cabell so cameras and microphones were available for this), and that's a lot of how I studied for his very straightforward, all-free-response exams. He is very reluctant to give solid As on the papers that you write, but he is a reasonable grader. There are enough assignments that if you don't do so hot on one, you can definitely recover. Take this class if you can.
