Disclaimer: I took SOC 2559: Sociology Through Science Fiction with Professor Isaac Reed, which doesn't seem to be the same class the other review is talking about. We had no TA or discussion sections, the midterms and "final exam" (which was essentially just an exam on the last third of the class and weighted the same as the other midterms) were not cumulative and only had multiple choice, true/false, and short answer questions (about a paragraph), and there were no papers. That being said, I really enjoyed my time in this class. The readings you do before class are essentially just reading science fiction short stories/novels or watching science fiction movies. In class, the professor connects the stories and its elements to sociological theories, and we have discussions about the readings/viewings and what we thought about them. Participating in the discussions during class gives you "extra credit," and not participating doesn't hurt you. The final grade is just made up of the three exams and pop quizzes based on the readings, but if you do the readings/viewings (which are super interesting, idk why you wouldn't) and come to lecture, they're not extremely difficult. Overall, if you're interested in science fiction at all, I would definitely recommend this course!

I really enjoyed this class with Professor Reed! He is very intelligent, but sometimes his lectures seem to go over everyone's heads. However, we had a TA in the class, and the TA was phenomenal at breaking down all the information from that week's lecture. Before exams, I would go to the discussion with the TA, and he would review all the information that would be on the exam. There were 2 midterms with short answer, long answer, and multiple choice questions. There was a final exam that was based off the two midterms. Additionally, there was a paper due midway through the semester that was graded by the TA. I thought our TA was a fair grader, and I appreciated that he graded the papers and exams because I had heard that Professor Reed was a hard grader. I really did not have to do the readings in the class as long as I went to the discussion. I recommend this class to sociology majors!
