Take this class if you want an Easy A. It's two lectures a week at 50 minutes with one discussion, led by a TA that will make your life super easy. They write long-form notes (2-3 pages) for every lecture. Professor Platts is super easy to follow in his lectures, generally accommodating, and his exams are super straightforward. His lectures are only 5 slides long, but he does include lots of movie clips because of the nature of the class' focus: film. The midterm and the final are worth 20% each, the memos 15%, discussion section participation 20%, and the final paper 25%. The final paper is 5-7 pages about a topic of your choosing, and has virtually no requirements except that it is adjacent to analyzing popular culture. The memos are 1-2 page answers on a prompt given from the readings. They are GENEROUS graders if you include some of the key terms, which is easy to do because the class is fairly enjoyable. One drawback of this class is that because the lecture slides are so short, it can sometimes get boring and I'm not sure the course is super engaging. But overall, a great GPA booster with a kind professor who is very passionate about popular culture!
This class is amazing!! I could not reccomend it more to someone who needs an Anthropology class or an easy grade. Professor Platts is the best. There are about 4 writting assignments that are around 2 pages long and are very doable. Platts lets you choose between taking a timed or untimed exam which allows for a lot of flexibility. There are two 50 minute lectures a week and one discussion. I really enjoyed this class and we talked about a wide range of topics regarding all kinds of pop culture from movies to my little pony fandoms.
