Thuan was the most boring professor I have ever had. He didn't speak English well either, but that was more amusing than anything else. He confused Africa and South America on a globe, and often complained about how hard it was being an astronomer. Definitely do not take his class if you can avoid it.
This is the worst class I have taken at UVA. I took it to fill an area requirement and get an easy A, but it's almost impossible to get an A with his bell curve. The class is mind-numbingly boring, and drags on forever. Professor Thuan talks to the board and expects you to know a bunch of random facts. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I would absolutely not recommend this class to anyone looking to take 1210.. Professor Thuan's quizzes are not at all relevant to what he actually teaches and the questions go much more in depth. On top of that he is very hard to understand and it is nearly impossible to pay attention in his lectures. I am a regularly good student who is struggling to get a B in this class.
Professor Thuan could be a bit boring, and honestly all the material is very easy so the lectures are slow. I skipped the majority of them and read the book and still the tests were very easy. The final was difficult, but only because he tested specific facts you had to memorize, rather than general concepts that are actually useful. The information is interesting, but I would probably taking this class with another professor.
This class is really boring, but the only things you are tested on is anything that Thuan writes on the board. If you go to class, take notes, and study for the tests in advance, this is an easy class that you don't really need to focus much on. I would recommend it for a science credit, but nothing more than that.
