This course was awesome! Incredibly interesting. Professor Evans does a good job of translating complicated topics into easy-to-understand graphics and diagrams. He uploads the slides after lecture, but it was really helpful to attend lecture in person because he says a lot of things that are not on the slide. The Astronomy labs were very interesting and easy to get a good grade in as long as you did what was asked of you. Quizzes were informative and Professor Evans offered lots of feedback. Overall great class, wonderful Professor who gave entertaining lectures and fair grades!
The content is lowkey pretty boring. I took this class to fulfill the discipline and thought it would be super easy. Or at least easier than chemistry. The instructor is super nice and makes a lot of dad jokes. He gave us a cheat sheet for every exam and let me tell you. I could fit all the notes and even more on that sheet and the exam was still pretty hard. so averaged about an 83 even with everything. Luckily, he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit and part of our grades come from the quantitative quizzes, homework quizzes from the textbook, and labs (which are all super easy to get a 100 on). But the questions on the exam are mostly application based and they’re pretty hard. I would definitely fail if I didn’t have the cheat sheet. I’ll be honest tho, I didn’t pay attention very well in class cause the content was too boring. So many if you pay attention you’ll do better on the exams? But still, I’m glad I took those over chem even with the unnecessarily hard exams. Also I still ended with an A, barely but it counts lol.
This is a solid class to take to fulfill requirements or as an elective. Professor Evans is a great professor who really knows a lot. He is very friendly and often tells jokes, space movie reviews, and personal astronomy stories in his lectures. The class grade is made up of weekly homework (15%), 2-3 Quantitative Quizzes (10%), 2 labs (15%), 2 midterms (20% each), and a final exam (20%). The homework is multiple choice and very easy. The quantitative quizzes are also simple and walk you through how to do a certain equation. You also are encouraged to check your answers from those with the professor. Besides those two quizzes there is no other math in the course, which I found very relieving. There are also textbook readings which are a good supplement, but not necessary to do well in the class. The exams are all multiple choice and can be tricky but you are allowed a one page cheat sheet which helps. The final was also online and open note. The labs are some of the most fun parts of the course, be sure to do them early in the semester in case of bad weather. One lab looked at constellations while the other viewed objects through telescopes. As long as you listen to the TAs you should earn a good grade on the labs. There were also lots of extra credit opportunities. This was a great class and I highly recommend it!
SO. EASY. I took this to fulfill the chemical and physical universe discipline for an easy A, but wow, this was a walk in the park. Attendance isn't mandatory and the slides tell you all you need to know for exams. You also get a 1 page cheat sheet for the exam, which is all multiple choice. The one thing that frustrated me were the labs, which are hard to sign up for and are at night (8-9 or 9-10). Other than that, I didn't have much trouble with this class. Evans is so sweet and wholesome and really cares about the subject.
