SOC 1010

Do not take this with Buckelew. She does not teach you what you might need for MCAT and uses her obvious liberal biases in class. We had to write an essay on hook-up culture which is honestly subjective in and of itself. I do not recommend this class, though a B is easy to pull off. TAs were unusually strict and would take off points and not explain why, do not waste your time with this class.

I think Professor Buckelew made this class significantly more difficult than it needed to be. The lectures are not recorded and slides are not posted, so you have to go to understand the materials. The discussion section was also pretty important to go to because they lectured during discussion. There was heavy reading and a heavy weight in the overall grade for the class was placed on exams. The exams themselves were unnecessarily hard, and although they were open note and open book, it honestly didn't help because the questions were confusing and were pretty tricky. However, the class was pretty interesting, and Professor Buckelew is a pretty interesting lecturer despite the difficulty of the class and difficulty of comprehension of the lectures.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH BUCKELEW SHES EVIL I REPEAT SHE IS EVIL!!!! If you are taking this class for a requirement I can guarantee you can find another better class to fulfill it. TO ALL MY PREMEDS TAKE MEDICAL SOC. I am saying this to you as my warning like the grades may be deceiving but this INTRODUCTORY class is so much more work and gave me more headaches than I ever could have expected. Buckelew loves to see her students fail and puts the most obscure questions ever and the formatting of her quizzes are so annoying so even one or two questions wrong will already set you back a substantial amount. She claims that her other points (in class assignments and discussion writing assignments) will help balance out your grade and your lowest quiz is dropped but the questions in the quiz are just so annoying and is not even something that you can prepare for. I am warning you!!! you will regret taking this class please set yourself free (I couldn't unfortunately) so hopefully this will same some other poor unsuspecting soul who just thinks buckelew is someone with nice outfits and a cute soft spoken voice because underneath all that lies something so much scarier.
