Course is just as easy as the 1000 ones, just more vocab to be aware of. You do have to buy the $70 textbook because you'll need access to the videos but the book has an online access code so you don't have to buy a dvd player. RJ is pretty cool as an instructor, funny too, but she was sick most of my semester so I only had her for a couple classes.
This semester was primarily taught by Greg but RJ still graded things like the SAVs, LL, and final expressive. This semester has a larger focus on being able to tell a story with descriptions rather than just straight vocab which is what a lot of 1010/1020 was. I would say the first unit was the hardest just because it was describing objects and the quiz was pretty tricky. I think part of the reason the first unit quiz was hard was that it was the first in-person ASL quiz everyone in the class had taken. But, things got easier with the last two units. LLs this semester were harder than 1010/1020 but using tutoring resources or having a study group will help a lot. SAVs were pretty easy; there was a lot of repeptition in the assignments which was slightly annoying but did help with feeling comfortable signing about the topics. The final expressive was on GoReact which was stressful but I felt like RJ was fair and understanding with the grades. This semester was expensive in terms of textbooks because you needed another GoReact subscription (~$30), Sounds Like Home book (use UVA's library online to get it for free!!), Signing naturally book (~$60), and something that connects to your computer to play the CD or get an online subscription to watch the videos (~$30). #tCFfall2021
