I want to start by saying that Anna Borovskaya is a wonderful professor, and she makes this class fun, and with enough attention to it, rather easy. That said, this class will take up a great deal of your time. There are classes five days a week, and that means homework must be done and turned in for each of those five days. Getting into this class is difficult if you have no prior knowledge of Russian, particularly since it is so different from most students' first language, English. Over halfway through the semester, some of my classmates still don't know how to read or write Cyrillic--which is on them, as our homework always requires knowing it, and the teachers spent the first two weeks almost solely teaching how to write and read in Cyrillic.
So, would I recommend this class? Absolutely, if you have a little prior knowledge of Russian, enough time to dedicate, and at least a little knack for languages. Borovskaya is kind and helpful and makes the process of learning Russian fun.
I really enjoyed this class. It's easy to get a good grade without that much effort outside of class, but I still feel like I learned so much this semester, and I'm very glad I decided to take Russian. Although, if you aren't interested in the language or don't have a language learning background, it might be slightly more difficult. I'm excited to keep studying Russian in the spring!!

Anna is truly the greatest teacher/professor I have ever had in college or in secondary school. She puts emphasis on the student learning the language rather than worrying about grade and she really wants everyone to do well. Unlike many professors, she is really understanding if something is happening in your life and works to make sure that you can do what's necessary for class and attend to whatever you need to outside of it. In other words, she cares about the student more than anything else and shows it in everything she does. Russia is usually given a bad rep and stereotyped as dull and mean, but Anna is the opposite. I looked forward to coming to class every day as she made every lecture fun and interesting. If you're struggling , she gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit, including a cultural presentation which is very low-key and worth an entire test grade. Also if you participate in a Slavic Department Event (Russian Play or Poetry Night) she'll raise your grade by half a letter grade. Overall highly recommend.
Anna is the best professor I have ever had throughout all my schooling. She is incredibly kind and remembers every detail about every student. She is always available for extra help and welcomes it. The workload for the class is difficult, but not unmanageable. I would highly recommend taking this class with Professor Anna.
