Class was very informative and taught me quite a bit about how to write for social study classes. Only complaint is that most first year students will do poorly on first two papers since they are just being taught some basics of ENWR when assigned. However, you are allowed to do two extra papers after mid-term that drop these bad ones which is great. Overall, I highly reccommend this class
This class was difficult. My TA was a super attractive woman, but she graded my papers and Exam so hard. The Professor HT, was boring in lecture. She is accessible, and I just found that she didn't present the material in an exciting manner. You couldn't tell what she considered important for her tests when she stressed most of her sentences during the lecture. The final is easy and the better you do as the class goes on, you earn a better grade for the whole year. 'nuf said
In terms of content, I really enjoyed this class. Professor Halvorson-Taylor's lectures are very interesting, and I usually left with a full understanding of a particular story or passage. The amount of work that this class requires is where the dissatisfaction comes in. I often got behind on readings, and the writing assignments were somewhat stressful. I recommend this class only if you are actually interested in the subject.
I loved this class! Professor Halvorson-Taylor is great at lecturing and never failed to make a topic interesting. Also, I would recommend getting Kyle Hughes as a TA. He was always extremely helpful and wanted to see everyone succeed. Obviously, I would highly recommend this class. Just be ready to do quite a bit of reading and some short writing assignments in addition to quite a bit of preparing for the tests. The reading isn't always 100% necessary, but if you want a leg up on the class, I suggest doing it.
