Hudson had slightly uninteresting lectures, although I, unlike most others, still enjoyed him sometimes. I liked the content (and I'm not planning on studying religion any further). The class was simply chosen to fulfill my nonwestern requirement and it wasn't a bad choice. There are 5 minute short reading check-quizzes before every lecture. If you could skim and figure out the main points from the readings, then you'll do fine on them. Dates are not important for this class, but names and concepts are.
Adam Newman was a great TA. He was fair, taught well, seemed like he cared about his students, and really nice.
Lectures were painful. I resorted to going to lecture to turn in my reading check everyday, then I left. I didn't learn anything from lecture, but discussions were great. I'd take this class if you need an easy class and need to fulfill the non-western perspective requirement, but know that it's not that exciting material.
Professor Hudson was extremely dull and his lectures were often hard to follow. He made the class pretty uninteresting in general. On the bright side, it was a pretty easy class and easy to do well in. You get a study guide for the midterm and final which help a lot. Adam Newman is a great TA and helped us understand the material and prepare for the tests.
The TAs really help with this class. The professor is so monotone, you can't do anything except tune out. I've seen many students playing games on their laptops and one kid was watching "Family Guy" on Hulu. If you study for the exams and go to the discussions, you should be fine. I didn't exactly put the most effort into it, now looking back I kind of regret it, but if you want to get rid of 2 requirements, take this class, but make sure you don't get bored easily and can stay focused in the lectures.
Prof. Hudson is extremely dry and unorganized. He makes the lectures very confusing and hard to understand. I find the subject of the course very interesting... but some of the readings are very confusing and overall the class is pretty boring. You have to do a lot of work on your own in order to do well in this class.
Well, I'm still taking the class. But, the class consist of 2 test where each one is 30% of you grade. Another 20% is based on reading quiz which is given every class section. And the remaining 20% is based on participation in discussion. The professor is extremely bland during the 1st half of the semester, the second half has gotten a lot better. Be prepared for to defined a lot of terms in order to complete the study guide.
