I will say that the class overall is generally straightforward and Prof Morris does a good job at explaining the concepts very well. However, this class should not be taken lightly because it's 4 credits. The tests are pretty fair as well but can be tricky, especially with the fill-in-the-blank questions. The lab part of the course is very easy because the homework assignments generally mirror the classwork examples. The lab really helps reinforce what is learned in lecture. The best way to do well in this course is to go over the powerpoints and try not to wait till the last minute to study for the exams. Also, DON'T SKIP LECTURE. Morris assigns 10% of the lecture part of the grade to attendance is lectures where clicker questions were asked. This is why I didn't received the grade that I was expecting. This class is required for psych major and a elective course for Cog Sci so there's no way of getting around this course. The book isn't 100% required for the class but it's nice to have.
The only reason to take this class is if you're a psych major and you have to. That being said, I think Jamie is the best teacher to have as he explains the material clearly and is very helpful if you are struggling. The tests are challenging, but fair. The lab portion will really depend on your TA. Mine, Theresa, was super chill, but I know others were really nitpicky in their grading.
Professor Morris has changed his way of testing and grading this semester. You can no longer drop your lowest grade, and you get graded based on the accuracy of iclicker questions. Your lab grade is totally based on your T.A., the homework itself is not difficult, but my T.A. was extremely picky about tiny details which drove me insane. Don't get fooled by the grade distribution. The lecture is extremely dry, and I didn't learn much.
This is a required class for psych majors, and Morris is probably the best teacher available for it this year. It's dry, boring and sometimes tedious material but Morris doesn't make the exams too hard if you practice a ton, and the labs actually make the lecture material easier.
Biggest mistake you can make in this class is not going- UNFORTUNATELY, Morris assigns 10% of your grade to the ACCURACY of your iClicker responses, and the questions are always about reading you were supposed to do before lecture, but no one does because no one reads the textbook ahead of time in real life. Going to class seems pointless when all you do is get clicker questions wrong because they're about material you haven't covered yet, but its worth the 1/4 chance of guessing right. Otherwise lecture is pretty pointless. The textbook is good at teaching you.
I still hate statistics, but I'll get a solid B in the class.
Morris is a relatively laid-back professor who doesn't make it too hard on his students. If you practice the problems well, there's no reason why you can't ace his exams.
As far as the lab sections are concerned, know the requirements, follow directions, pay attention to details, and don't be afraid to bug your TA with a million emails - they generally love to help.
