#tCFF23. This class was incredibly interesting and manageable except for the fact that I found the exams quite difficult. I never had taken a Psych class before so that probably made it more difficult on my end by Professor Wood is an excellent and very understanding professor. We had weekly textbook homework assignments and if you simply show up to class you can get up to 3% in extra credit.
Prof Wood is positive, gives great lectures, and is very kind towards students. Lectures do get very boring and the class is almost entirely memorization, but tests are fair and it's not hard to do well if you put a lot of time in. Homework is only interactive textbook chapters. Overall, just a solid lecture class that I def learned a lot from.
Personally, I found this class very challenging because it is mostly based on your exam grades. She gives insane extra credit which is a huge boost and she is a really helpful/good lecturer. If you need this as a requirement, I highly recommend you take it just be sure to study for the exams ahead of time.
Professor Wood is really great. The work is super manageable, and a lot of the topics are very interesting and straightforward. The studies that she brings up are really cool and applicable to real life. There are mandatory readings every week, but I forgot more than a couple and managed to scrape an A, anyway. You can only turn in the questions on the textbook an hour after the official due date, otherwise you get a zero. You have to do six hours of participation in research, but as long as you stay on top of it, it's totally manageable to do all of them online. The exams aren't too bad, and they do curve it a little, which is nice. I believe all the lectures get posted, but there's an extra credit based on an in-class assignment that she randomly chooses, so you might want to attend lectures. It's a pretty easy class overall, but very interesting.
I loved this course! This is a perfect course to take during one of your more difficult semesters. I would describe this as an easy A that is fun!
Instructor: She is such an engaging lecturer! She does a great job organizing her lectures, giving interesting examples, and works to engage students. She is excellent and I highly recommend taking this course with her.
Coursework:
- There is one mandatory chapter reading each week (graded), but the textbook is interesting. Otherwise, there is no other weekly work other than showing up to lecture. This makes it such a low maintenance course to still learn a lot from.
- Grade breakdown: reading assignments (30%), research pool (5%), Exam 1 (15%), Exam 2 (20%), Final Exam (30%), and extra credit from showing up to lecture and completing the poll everywhere questions
- Exam advice (I got a 94, 95, and 100): Know the vocabulary from the lecture AND the textbook, go through your lecture notes to understand the example studies, exams are all cumulative but there is a focus on the new material, and lastly talk through the material the day before and it will make it easy
Overall, take this course!
This course material is super enjoyable, and Professor Wood tries to make it as interesting as possible with real-world examples of a lot of the terms and concepts. The class style is very lecture heavy, so if that isn't your style, then you may not enjoy it as much. However, Professor Wood does do polls and asks you to talk to people around you and then share with the class occasionally, which breaks up the hour 15 minute classes. The reading isn't too bad but I would recommend taking decent notes for later studying. The tests are mostly straightforward but there are some multiple choice questions where all of the answers could be "right" but you have to choose the "most right" one. Other than that, would 100% recommend this class and professor.
This class had so much potential to be interesting, yet somehow it wasn't. I often found myself being put to sleep during the lecture. This being said, I did well in this course regardless of having to pay too much attention. It was kind of annoying and felt like a waste of time to have to do the mind map assignments before every exam, especially since we peer-graded them. The tests aren't too difficult though.
AMAZING PSYCH CLASS. Great for first years just starting out with psych. I had credit for AP Psych which helped so I would consider taking intro psych first but it is not always necessary. This class was great- reasonable amount of reading from the textbook and not too much material introduced in lecture. There are 3 cumulative exams that increase in weight towards your grade (great for first years still getting used to how college exams are written). You will succeed in this class if you take careful notes on the assigned chapters and everything on the lecture slides/ main points she makes. I highly recommend making flashcards at the end of every week and taking 20-30 min every weekend to review so by the time of the final you are super prepared. Prof Wood is amazing and always there to help. The weekly reading assignments are super easy and great to boost your grade. One assignment that this class requires is a summary sketch where students make a concept map before each exam and are then graded by their peers which can be annoying if they take off points but it doesn't affect your grade too much. Loved this class!
I took this class as a pre-req for Psychology major and I earned an A in this class. The grade is divided into these categories: 30% weekly homework grade which you can get full points as long as you do them, 5% psychology research grade (6 hours of research per semester if you haven't done them before), 3 summary sketch before each exam that worth 5% each, 10% for first exam, 15% for second exam, 30% for third/final exam. If the average of the final exam is higher than the average of 1st and 2nd, then the final exam would be worth 50% of the entire grade. Professor Wood is a very nice person and she truly tries to make sure that her students succeed in the class. She gives out ample extra credits and I ended up having a 97 overall grade despite that I only earned an 80% for my finals. All in all this class is very friendly without much heavy contents and you can definitely take it even if you are not trying to pursue a psychology major because contents you learn in this class applies to daily life.
BESTTTTT.
The class was amazing. Personally, it was very interesting to me. Yes, there are readings but super doable and easy-reads. There are also some summary sketches and weekly reading's quizzes. The tests were online but I think that was not the initial plan. Anyways, a lot of memorizing for tests but very easy material.
10/10 would recommend this professor!
Overall not happy with this course. The instructor seems cool but that's about where it ends. Not very engaging and material is quite boring. Tests are tricky and difficult and take days to weeks to grade when they are multiple choice. You only have the specific class period to take the test, which is unheard of when taking online. Reading isn't super hard but the book is really slow on most computers (tried a bunch, always freezes). The powerpoints are confusing and not really a study tool at all. Lecture and book do not overlap and you have to memorize both. Have to remember weird details and fake research designs and the final exam was extremely difficult and confusing. You have to complete mini projects (summary sketches) where they are graded by peers in an online forum, pretty lazy, inefficient, and unfair grading.
Very interesting psych class that has very minimal work! You have weekly reading assignments that you can take as many times as you would like until you get 100. There are 3 exams, multiple choice with a couple of fill in the blank. You also have to make a summary sketch or some sort of visual representation of the content from the units before each exam and then peer review those. Professor Wood is a good professor, and you can tell she really cares about her students and wants you to do well. If you pay attention in class and read (or just study before the exams) you should do fairly well! Would recommend, even for non psych majors!
Summary: A really chill professor who is fun to listen to and an easy and interesting intro class. Take this class if you need a social science credit.
Adrienne Wood is one of the best teachers I've had so far in college(3rd year). She really puts a lot of effort into making her slides and lectures interesting, and she intentionally makes the class pretty easy which you love to see in an intro class, even telling us to grade each other more easily on the summary sketches. The class itself was fairly interesting, although much of it is pretty intuitive. The three exams were all fairly easy, and the weekly reading quizzes are all really easy(provided you do the reading). Each reading was about an hour long, so it didn't take a ton of effort in this class to succeed.
This class is a good one for sure. Prof Wood is super nice and records her classes so if I can't make it to class I can watch it later to catch up. The homework is easy freebies and summary sketches and reviews are just small projects for each exam which are generally just study tools. The exams however are quite the beating with fill in the blanks and multiple choice leaving you stupidly confused but overall the grading covers for a lot of your mediocre performances.
This class is... not enjoyable to say the least. Although Professor Wood is a very sweet person, she is definitely not a teacher in any regard. She reads off the slides during her lectures and she even got to the point where she had an entire section of a class explaining how teaching was only a small portion of her job and an insignificant one at that. So that really was a confidence boost that this class would be enjoyable. Not.
But the content of this class was easy. The tests were multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank, and the final would take up your entire "exam" score if your last exam was the best score out of the three tests in this class. Additionally, you had weekly readings and a small assignment that went along with it to make sure you got the gist of the reading.
So while this class wasn't necessarily fun, it wasn't difficult. I would recommend it if you want an easy A, but not necessarily if you want to gain something from it. You basically already know all this content, it's more putting words and definitions to ideas that you already know from living life.
I really enjoyed this course! Prof. Wood is a great instructor that is passionate about teaching the course and does a great job and explaining everything in a simple and applicable way. The class is broken down into the research pool participation (5%), three summary sketches (15%), weekly quizzes (25%), and two midterms plus a final (remaining 45%). This is probably the easiest psychology course I have taken at UVA, and people who have taken IB/AP psychology should be able to breeze through a good portion of the content. Lectures are engaging, the quizzes are fair, and exams are pretty straighforward. I would definitely recommend taking this course if you are a psychology major or simply want a GPA booster. #tCFfall2021
This class is a fun and easy psychology course that really feels applicable to your daily life. The professor is really kind and understanding of students' situations and works to make her teaching accessible to everyone. The material is fairly simple, especially if you've taken an AP/Intro course in psychology, but it is still very interesting. I would recommend this course to anyone who has somewhat of an interest in the topic!

I absolutely recommend this class w/Professor Wood. it was super interesting and easy, and she definitely cares about her students. the weekly quizzes were easy and the exams were a little trickier, but still easy. I skipped half her lectures (due to a busy schedule rather than choice) and still ended with a good grade. if you're looking for an easy A and an interesting class this is it!! #tCF2020
This was her first time teaching this class, and she did a phenomenal job despite it being online. She did her best trying to fix technological and logistical problems. She is also accommodating. She presented the topics in a very relevant and easy to understand way. The material in social psychology is extremely life relevant. You'll learn how and why people react and act differently in situations. It's fascinating. For participation, you just have to answer the questions in the zoom. The homework - reading and comprehension questions - are due once every week. There are two exams, and before you do them, she makes you do summary sketches which help you study. Towards the end of course, there is project called Putting Social Psychology to Good Use. It is a creative project that can occur in many forms, and it doesn't have to be time-consuming. I definitely recommend this class. #tCF2020
I absolutely LOVE Professor Wood. She is a young professor and is so relatable, and honestly one of the nicest professors I've had. She is extremely understanding and funny, and loves interacting with the class. As long as you study and do the homework, you will have a good time in the class: HIGHLY recommend, especially if you're fulfilling a requirement!
I really loved this class, and it was probably my favorite one of the whole semester! The material was really fascinating and not at all difficult. Professor Wood is a fantastic professor, and she also has some really cute pets. Aside from some early issues with the online textbook, this class was set up incredibly well. I would definitely recommend the class and especially Professor Wood.
I took PSYC 2600 with Professor Wood during the fall semester of my first year, and I really enjoyed it! It shows that Professor Wood is passionate about what she teaches, and she is more than willing to help any student that is struggling. I appreciated how adaptable and understanding she was during a semester riddled with uncertainty during COVID-19. You should definitely do the weekly assigned readings, as Professor Wood mostly incorporates supplemental material into her lectures. There are three cumulative exams, and they aren't too difficult if you study and turn in a thorough Summary Sketch each time. Overall, I would highly recommend taking PSYC 2600 or any other course with Professor Wood! She is wonderful!
I loved this class! The reading was very doable (1 chapter of the textbook a week), and the lectures talked about material related to, but not directly from, the readings. This is the professor/class that got me interested in psychology - the lectures were incredibly interesting and engaging, but not too dense, and Professor Wood is very knowledgeable, open, and nice. The final grade consists of attendance, weekly reading checks (usually quizzes, sometime writing), 3 tests (cumulative, increasing weight), and a few small projects (I didn't love these, and the grading was a bit convolutive, but nothing took more than a few hours). There's plenty of material, but the tests were straightforward (MC and a few short answer), and it's not overly difficult to get a good grade in the class if you're at least skimming the readings and paying attention to lecture. If you're looking for an intro psychology class (or, like me, you need to fill a requirement), I would highly recommend this professor! #tCF2020
I really enjoyed this class and Dr. Wood is a great professor. She did really well with the online format due to COVID and always worked with us to fix any technological issues or make sure everything was going smoothly. I learned a lot in this class and highly recommend taking it with Dr. Wood. The exams were pretty straightforward, a mix of multiple-choice and short answer. I definitely recommend taking good notes on the lectures and also reading the textbook (the exams will have questions based on both). The textbook is very readable and the lectures are interesting. Overall, a great class and professor. #tCF2020
