Willingham is a really awesome professor: lectures are always incredibly interesting, and he only posts the graphs/diagrams online so going to lecture is essential. There are 3 midterms and a final, the lowest midterm score is dropped. The exams are all difficult, but they are fair. They ensure that you really do know the material. Willingham is a great guy too and is always good at answering questions- go to his office hours! Reading was a couple hours max a week, but usually not even that much. The subject is really interesting and having Willingham teach it makes it even better- he's hilarious. I definitely recommend this class.

This class runs entirely on exams, so you will need to read the assigned textbook thoroughly and attend every lecture to handle the highly specific, memorization-heavy tests. Lectures are widely praised for being engaging and clarifying complex ideas, but the posted slides are too vague to rely on alone. A generous class curve typically pushes average exam grades into the B range, though the grading system is notoriously confusing and keeps your actual standing hidden until late in the term. If you are genuinely interested in cognitive psychology, the material is fascinating and rewarding, but the lack of assignments and relentless exam focus make this a serious challenge for anyone expecting an easy A.

DTW is the bomb dot com. He's a hilarious man and can always make the material more interesting by adding in a couple jokes. This was my first psych class and I really enjoyed it. The tests are difficult, but if you study and know the material well, it will definitely pay off (it did for me).The only work in this class is the readings (about a chapter a week), which can be long, but definitely read them; they make up about 25% of the midterms and final. The material was really interesting and I highly recommend this class as a bit of a break (I'm an astrophysics major).
Professor Willingham is a really interesting lecturer. There are three midterms, the lowest one being dropped. This changes the curve slightly (and the curve is not that big in the first place). There is also a final. All of these take place on Collab, so you can know your grade right away. The tests are tough even after studying, and the only other grade is participation (as measured by iClicker questions). He uses z scores, so you won't know exactly where you stand till the end of the semster. Overall, the tests were rather difficult, but I would still recommend this class for anyone needing a psych class. There is no other work besides reading each week.
Lectures are important. Willingham is the man, I never fell asleep in class. Definitely recommend to anyone.
Willingham's lectures are packed with content, so going to class is essential. I enjoy his lectures (he's humorous and relevant), but sometimes the information seems too detailed or just random. He does have a laptop policy that says you have to sit in the back row if you want to take notes on your computer, but he might change it based off of feedback from this semester. The tests are usually pretty fair, but you definitely have to study.
Professor Willingham is hilarious and uses clickers, which helped me to engage and pay attention to his interesting lectures (which were organized and clear)! The tests could be a little difficult, but shouldn't be too bad if you do the readings, pay attention in class, and maybe attend a few review sessions. Definitely recommend!
Professor Willingham is a GREAT teacher! This class is one of the most enjoyable that I have taken at UVA so far. He always makes lectures interesting and upbeat, incorporating lots of good examples. He is very good at explaining concepts. The class itself isn't too hard, and it becomes much much easier if you do all the reading (even if you don't do the reading as it comes, just get it all done before the exam). One of the other things that I love about this class is that there are optional review sessions each week that you can go to to get questions clarified. This is a great resource because if you go to them, you will be wonderfully prepared for the exams! I definitely would recommend this class to anyone.
Awesome professor. Very interested in what he is teaching and actually makes a lecture based class fun to be in. The material is really interesting and applicable to life. Tests are hard but very fair- do the reading, take good notes, and take good notes in class and you'll be fine! Don't take this class unless you take it with Willingham
As someone who has never taken a psychology class, I found this class rather interesting. The lectures are never boring; Prof. Willingham is good at keeping students engaged (and sometimes entertained by his comments). Even though the tests can be difficult, I still feel like I'm learning. He is also very good about answering questions, so don't be afraid to speak up!
This class wasn't bad. As a non-pysc major, the material wasn't very interesting, but Prof. Willingham is a very interesting lecturer. His style isn't very straight-forward, but he incorporates media into his lectures to better explain his points. The only grades are from 2 midterms (you take 3, but one is dropped) and the final. His tests are tricky, and even if you think you know the material there are a lot of trick questions and answers. This is not an easy A class by far, despite the lack of homework.
