Only 2 grades for this class. Midterm and Final. He assigned over 13 books for my class but you don't need to read all of them. He got a friend of his, CIA Officer Gary Schroen to come in and speak which was exciting. He's also the former Inspector General of CIA. Take this class if your interested in the implications that 9/11 and Intel has on a global scale.
This class has a TON of reading. That said, all of the books are super interesting. You'll learn so much from reading even one of them. Professor Hitz has a relatively unorganized lecture style, but he definitely knows what he is talking about. I personally think that he is a great professor. If you're interested in the topics the class covers, definitely take this class!
On a side note, Mike was a great TA.
Alot of reading, but it is interesting and relevant to current events in the Middle East. One midterm and a final research paper. Hitz is a really nice professor and keeps the material interesting. Take this class if you are at all interested in the current situation in Afghanistan/Pakistan and Iraq.
One of the driest, most tedious courses I've taken at UVa. Prof. is knowledgeable, but tone is completely monotone. Syllabus has no structure to it; only assignments are midterm and final research paper, both of which there were hardly any guidance/ requirements set forth. Lectures were boring, no incentive to do reading. Would not take this course again.
