This class is fantastic. It's basically an excuse to give you course credit for interning at the Center for Politics. As such, it is very chill and very fun. The class itself meets once a week and talks campaigns, elections, etc. Professors Sabato and Stroupe co-teach the class and they're both outstanding people that you definitely want to get to know. One of the best parts of the class is the guest speakers, with whom you get to interact on a very private and personal level. Reading is very manageable, though it can fluctuate in volume from week to week. No exams- just 3 papers, all of which had such interesting prompts that I actually enjoyed writing them. Also a final exam. The most unique and time-consuming component of your grade is your internship, which takes place under the supervision of someone at the Center (all awesome people). A couple of caveats: 1) I would definitely wait to take the class in a presidential or midterm election year, as a substantial component of the class involves following real-time electoral politics with predictions, analyses, etc. and 2) your experience with the internship is largely determined by which project you are assigned to. In my case, I actually got more out of the class than the internship because my project was rather inconsequential. Overall highly recommended!
This class is largely comprised of an internship with the Center for Politics, and it is absolutely wonderful. The experiences gained and connections made render the class imperative to students seeking careers in politics. I highly recommend the class to any and all students! It is quite a time commitment though, in light of the fact that each intern needs to spend at least 10 hours a week working, just in order to pass. To get a higher grade requires more time and effort, but it is worthwhile.
This class is teamed with an internship at the UVa Center For Politics. Any politics major who is interested in pursuing a career in the political/public policy field should really take this course, because you get some great experience. The class itself met once every other week for 50 minutes, and was primarily discussion based. The readings were unnecessary until the final paper. Great course and internship.
This class is actually taught by Ken Stroupe, one of the guys over at the Center for Politics. This class is a great experience though, you get to meet the staff over there and help them out on all kinds of neat projects. Must be able to intern roughly 10 hours a week, but the class itself is really easy. Fair amount of reading, but you should be fine if you put in the effort
