This class is a tough, time-consuming requirement for engineers. Jones is super duper helpful and a great teacher though. The written homework is hard, but if you go to office hours you'll get it done. I think physics in general is a pretty hard subject to understand conceptually, so the homework can get hard, but I think if you can do those on your own you will be able to do reasonably well. Just be prepared to put aside a lot of time for this class, there is no break throughout the week since homework is pretty constant (Mon, Wed, Fri).
This is hands-down the most worthwhile course I've ever taken. I learned SO much and Professor Jones is an incredible teacher, mentor, and person. His lectures are inspiring, he uses technology well (he actually uses both projector screens so if you get behind or confused the last page of notes is there for you), incorporates eye-opening demos into his lectures, and makes himself very available for LOTS of office hours. The written homework and mastering physics are very organized and will greatly help you understand the material. Professor Jones and Professor Sackett are both great guys and brilliant physicists. I was honored to be able to learn so much from them.
There's no getting around the fact that all engineers have to take physics II, so definitely take the course with Prof. Jones. He's really great -- his lectures are well organized, he takes electronic notes on his tablet (which is nice because you're taking notes as he's writing, rather than just trying to copy down information from a premade powerpoint), and he really cares about your success. He hosts a LOT of office hours and posts a ton of additional materials on collab. The key to success is definitely going to as many lectures as possible and really paying attention. Regardless of your professor, you're going to have 2 4 problem Mastering Physics assignments each week and 1 3 problem written homework assignment. They are tough, but you're allowed to work with others and office hours are your friend. Sackett filled in for Jones one day, and I can say I'm very glad I had Jones!
Prof. Jones is the man. You are probably taking this course because you have to, but you should definitely take his class. I hated physics 1 but jones is so much better. He genuinely cares and his office hours are incredibly helpful for the homework, which can be very difficult. The tests are also pretty hard but he grades on a different scale. So for my class getting a 50 percent was about a B to B-
Awesome professor - passionate about both his students and the material. His lectures are very clear and he does a great job clarifying things if you need it. Holds office hours several times a week. Does some pretty cool demos as well (like swinging from the ceiling on an electromagnet).
Lots of homework though - 2 online assignments + 1 written assignment per week. Stay on top of it and you should be fine. Do the reading as well, it's very helpful.
