This class was terrible. PQ was honestly not good at lecturing and never really followed through on providing us with resources he said he would. Exams were terribly difficult. There is a curve in the class that makes each of the exam averages an 85%, but you don't know your grade in the class until the end. There is mastering physics homework that is 20% of your grade and I recommend working with people on it and going to the TA for help. I haven't met someone in the class that said they were doing well in it so it is a do as best as you can and hope there is a great curve. It is very disappointing how hard the class is for it being an introduction to physics. Oh, also there are not examples or aspects of the class that make it specifically for pre-health students. Not sure why that is in the course title. #tCFfall2021
The key to understanding the material in this course was reading the textbook prior to class and working through practice problems during the reading. It takes a while to do this, but it was the best way to study and understand the material. Lectures were somewhat helpful, but often Prof. P.Q. Hung was a bit difficult to understand and moved through concepts quickly. I think I learned best during lecture when he worked through problems. Demonstrations of physical concepts were also performed in class which were helpful to my understanding and certainly entertaining. Mastering Physics homework was due weekly. Mastering Physics problems were definitely more difficult than those on the exam, so they helped me prepare for the exam. We did one Learning Catalytics (class polling software similar to Top Hat or iClicker) question at the beginning of the semester, and then never had another one. The grade for this class was calculated as follows:
In-Class Exercises (5%)
Homework Exercises (20%)
Midterms (45%)
Final Exam (30%)
Overall, this course was not easy and moved at a fast pace, but it was manageable. It is easy to get behind if one neglects doing the readings. Prof. Hung was very kind.
