I do not even know where to start. This class was so bad. I came into the class thinking it would be fine because I am good at math and love math. Little did I know that there would be basically no math. We could not rely on math to solve the problems because he did not explain the concepts in that way. Sure there would be formulas, but you often could not use them because the problems were set up in way where you could use them. In order to do well in this course you have to understand the concepts from the way he explains it, unless if you have prior physics knowledge (which I didn't). Class time is rather unproductive. You watch pre-recorded lectures and answer questions before each class and class time is spent showing demonstrations and answering questions. I frequently asked questions and remained confused because I simply do understand the way he explains things. I went to office hours a couple of times hoping he could explain it from a different perspective. On both occasions I was there for over an hour, only got one question answered, and left more confused than when I arrived. I had a friend in the class who had taken AP Physics and was just as confused as I was. If you want to be able to rely on the math behind physics, you would be better off taking physics for engineers.
Professor Yoshida is very nice and helpful, but if you're looking for an easy science fulfillment, I would NOT recommend. I am a humanities major and I am struggling in this class. There is a LOT of math, calculus recall, and formulas. He lets you use a sheet of paper for the exams, but the questions are deeply application based and very hard. If you're bad at math, do not take this class.
