This class covers art after 1945 and Singerman does an amazing job of covering the material. If you want to learn more about Jackson Pollock, this is your class.

A very enlightening class for modern and contemporary art. Singerman is more like a contemporary art critic than an art history professor, which is a positive because he is so connected and passionate and involved with the material.

Prof. Singerman is very engaging-there was never a dull lecture. Doing the readings is not necessary in order to do well in the class.

Very interesting class. Dont stress on taking a million notes; you just need to study the ID sheet at the midterm and final to well.

professor singerman is clearly very passionate about what he teaches. I learned so much from taking this course! you don't have to be an avid art history lover to enjoy the material from lecture. because the lecture is held in a dark room, sometimes it's easy to doze off, but nonetheless it was a very interesting, worthwhile class! a must take it if you have the chance!

This is a wonderful class for anyone who loves modern / contemporary art! The material is fascinating. Standard ARTH format - midterm and final with essays and comparisons, some small writing assignments. You can absolutely get an A without doing a bit of reading, but when you have time most readings are short and interesting.

I probably wouldn't have taken this class if I weren't a Studio major. It's altogether pretty interesting, and Singerman really gets into what he's saying (so much so that he lectures with his eyes closed). The only problem with his lectures are the fact that they're in the dark - I'd recommend taking notes on your laptop to keep you awake. You'll definitely need to put aside lots of time to study for exams, and attend discussion. Also memorize a bunch of titles/dates of artworks and their artists.

Singerman is an amazing lecturer and this is a worthwhile class for both majors and non-majors. Doing the reading is not imperative for doing well in this class however attending lecture is.
