Prof Ott structured this class really well! There's a reading almost every class (that's usually pretty short), with the possibility of a pop quiz on it. This honestly held me really accountable in terms of staying on top of readings, and he gives you all the pop quiz questions in the syllabus. There are 3 papers, but they're each like 1,000 words, so also not bad. It's not the most exciting class, but Ott does a good job at keeping discussions fun and engaging.
Walter is a pretty good professor. The course is a good overview of (the history of) philosophy of mind overall. We started from the classical texts of Descartes, then proceeds to more contemporary ones such as Frankish's illusionism and Dennett and something about the moral stance of AI. I really like some of the course material, and Walter did a great job explaining those hard and (sometimes) tedious materials.
I would recommend this class to anyone who is already interested in philosophy of mind, problems of consciousness, AI, etc. But I wouldn't recommend this class to those who want to take an intro to philosophy class. This is not an easy class.
The course consists of several quizzes (which are not hard; rather fair), and two papers. Each paper needs to be revised after Walter handed back his comments. His comments are very serious and helpful; his objections are mostly very solid and fair; he is a fair grader, and not a very lenient commentator (his comments can be very harsh sometimes).
Walter is very strict with ddl. He writes that you will be deducted 1/3 letter grade per day and he means that.
Overall a good class, but also a very challenging class. Try to read some materials about the philosophy of mind and only take it if you are sure that you are interested in it.
