While I can't speak for those who are truly interested in Art History, I, as someone who began this course knowing very little about art, found it to be quite dull. However, there are only two (very) short 'identification' tests, which are very easy if you study the material between classes. This class is pretty unforgiving to those who put off studying until the night before, though.
I would highly NOT recommend this class. Thankfully it is Prof. Barolsky's last year teaching. He is an extremely unfair grader, talks in monotone (most of the time you can't hear what he says), he makes you feel very discouraged about your work and expects to memorize EVERYTHING for the test. He made a beautiful, extremely interesting topic bland and boring. As a lover of Italian Renaissance art, his class has made me not want to see another Italian painting. Only take this class if you if you are able to focus in extremley boring lectures, enjoy long home work readings and really good at memorizing a ton of information and dates.
