ARTH 1051

I loved this class! While I enjoyed art before taking this course, Dobbins and Ismini taught me to look at everything with a more critical eye and I also got a better understanding on how art fits into history. A really cool class. As a tip, I found that powerpoint slideshows with images of the art works really helped me study.

This class was one of my most difficult. It covers a broad range of topics very quickly so make sure you are keeping up with the pieces of art and understand them. Dobbins is a wonderful professor though and really likes his job. Plus, Renee is an awesome T.A. so if you can, get her for section!

This class was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. It is fairly interesting though and if you are interested Dobbins is a knowledgeable and able instructor

Dobbins is incredibly condescending, never really understood why he was well liked. Telling people how to use their computers in class is really annoying, he should be happy people come to class. Also filled with ambitious first years. Class really isn't too tough. Studied for 6 hours the night before the final and midterm without doing anything the entire semester and got an A.

This class was interesting in subject matter, and I absolutely loved Dobbins. His jokes and quirkiness made lectures more interesting. The class does require a lot of memorization, but as long as you can identify and know the basics of the works you should be good. I didn't think the grading was too harsh.

Dobbins is such an adorable little man. There was a lot of material, but a very interesting class if you want an intro to the beginnings of the history of art. I loved my TA!

great class. definitely required a lot of studying but dobbins really enjoys the subject and you really do learn a lot

Ridiculous amount of memorization. Go to class even though it's boring because it'll help you remember the art better. Interesting material but really rough tests

Fun and interesting class, though the lectures can be boring at times. Mr. Dobbins does use a lot of good anecdotes and comparisons to help explain the material though.
Tests and quizzes are virtually all memorization. An easy A if you're good at memorizing!
