I really liked this class, partially because I found the subject matter to be interesting and partially because Prof. LeBaron is such a kind professor. The textbook is pretty unnecessary- you could still get an A in the class just by going to lecture, but I bought it and read and it is a good textbook if your interesting in human development. The class is lecture and discussion based and LeBaron really tries to make it interesting my assigning movies and good books for projects as well as putting in fun videos of little kids during class. There are quizzes that are easy to get full points on, about 10 in class assignments(you can miss one with no penalty) and 7 larger out of class assignments that are honestly still pretty chill. I got As on both my midterm and the final without studying so don't stress about either of those. Sometimes the class could get boring but since I enjoyed the content it didn't really bother me. I recommend this for an easy and interesting class!
I loved both Dr. Lebaron and this class. Hands down this was my favorite class of the semester. It opened my eyes to a lot of different things, and the insight Dr. Lebaron was able to give us was inspiring. The class did require a lot of reading and often times the lectures were a bit dry, but everything she gave us to do/ watch/ read I enjoyed a lot. If you're into psychology or anthro I would definitely recommend this class!
This class was very informative and interesting. It is not too challenging and the content is relatively straightforward. Professor LeBaron is kind and passionate about the content she teaches. There are a few assignments that are pretty easy and good grade boosters. There is a midterm and a final, both of which are not too challenging either.
I have very mixed feelings about this class. The good things are that Le'Baron is very professional and such a kind person, you don't need to read the textbook as long as you watch/attend lectures (don't buy it... you will never use it), and that Le'Baron is a VERY easy grader. All quizzes are five multiple choice questions and pretty easy. The midterm and final were open for 24 hours and were all multiple choice, so they were low stress. All written assignments (there were four total; super quick and easy) I got 100s on, even though I often didn't put in full effort. The not as good things are that Le'Baron had a lot of trouble sticking to her time limit. She would waste a lot of class talking about assignments and then run out of time to lecture so she would post a lot of asynchronous lectures we had to watch. She also had us do group assignments on Mondays instead of lecturing us, so that would lead to even more asynchronous lectures. We also had to read Educated (a memoir) which was alright. My interest in the content varied a lot depending on the unit, but there is a large focus on psychology in this class. Overall it was alright, I'm glad to have it over with. I think almost all students got some sort of A. I believe it would have been MUCH better if it were in person.
An amazing class not limited to nursing students. It's pretty much stress-free. As long as you listen in class and read the textbook, you should be able to do fine in the class. I know some people who don't even read the textbook and do well, but some of the quiz and test questions revolve around the textbook, so reading it and taking notes is very helpful. The in-class assignments are due fifteen minutes after class (via online), and some people in the class forget to turn it in, which can hurt your grade if you do it often. The quizzes and exams are all online and you can take it anywhere and anytime within the given time frame as long as you're on the Cavelier network, and they are generally easy (again, as long as you listen in class and read the textbook). As for the professor, Dr. LeBaron is very knowledgeable as a palliative care nurse practitioner and teaches the course fairly and thoroughly. Overall, the class is fun, relatively easy as long as you put enough work in, and very useful in terms of healthcare-associated psychology.
Definitely take this class! Not just for nursing students, but for anyone interested in human development. We learned about the biological, psychological, and social development of people from birth to death, and Dr. Lebaron is so sweet. She tries to make class fun and engaging, and does not assign too much work. Your grade comes from several short online quizzes throughout the semester, a few short reflections, a midterm, and a final, which are both online and she gives you 48 hours to complete. As long as you go to lecture you will do fine on the exams because she tells you what she thinks is the most important for you to know. Attendance is not required, but there are sometimes in-class assignments that count for participation.
Class can be boring at times but usually super engaging and with fun activities (like bringing in people from the real world to talk to us). Reading the book can make lecture seem very repetitive, but I still recommend reading it as a way to review for the midterm and final. It has a lot of stories in it and is a pretty fast read as it keeps you engaged. Attending class is important as there are pop quizzes and assignments that count towards your grade. If you miss class, you can not make these up. Class is not difficult to get an A in as long as you pay attention in class and study for the exams. I feel like I learned a lot of things that I will be able to bring into my nursing practice and life in general in the future.
Professor LeBaron is outstanding. If you have any plans on working with people, especially in a health care or educational setting, take this class. There is very little outside work and the tests are very fair. She is so interesting to listen to and her lectures are very engaging. This is an awesome course if you are interested in psych at all. 10/10 recommend!
