Wow, having a lecture from 8am-10:30 is ROUGH, especially when Logan stands behind her screen and lectures in a monotone voice the whole time. I do not want to have her as a professor again because she was very dry and did not understand student life. One time in class we had to explain to her that making fun of people who picked the wrong answer did not facilitate an environment where making mistakes was okay. She also said we did not value our education when some people got Cs on exams.
With that said, the content is very interesting and you learn a TON in this class, but I am SO glad it is over with because I dreaded this lecture every week. The exams aren't too hard as long as you study your notes and look at the practice questions in the textbook. I did not do the textbook reading and personally do not believe it had any impact because I was able to use the notes to answer all the reading quizzes. I finished this class with an A, but I know there was a wide range between Bs and As.
One of the best classes at UVA and required for nursing. Professor Logan is very understanding and fair. She never tests you on material beyond the textbook or from lecture, so as long as you take good notes and listen in class, you're set. During class, she also hints quite generously what will be on the exam. I think in previous years the reason why students had trouble with the class was the fact that it was at 8 am and lasted 2.5 hours, but I heard that next year (Fall 2020), the class will be held in the afternoon, so that's a plus. That being said, definitely take time to study and prepare for the exams (3 exams, no lecture midterm or final, but rather clinical skills midterm and final). Dedicate a good week or so to study the materials, and you'll thank yourself so much by the time exam day comes. There's weekly "quizzes" but they're really just online assignments that are pretty easy and quick to do so long as you read the textbook beforehand (people can get lazy and just guess through the questions since you have multiple attempts. I'd be lying if I said I have never done this though).
Overall, a fantastic class, and you will learn a lot, especially in preparation for clinicals the following semester, so pay attention not just for the exams but also for clinicals.
I did not need to read the textbook and it was still fine to pass the course! Professor Logan will tell you everything that you need to for the next exam. If you have any questions after the lecture because of her fast pace, she is more than willing to help clarify some things to you. Labs are easy if you go to their open labs to practice; the exams are not like the lectures discussed in class. The exams are more of a situational based questions based on the content, so it's a waste of time trying to memorize everything that is in the powerpoint. Was not an easy A to achieve but it's duable.
This class is required for second year nursing so obviously you have to take it. Prof Logan can seem kind of intimidating but is very willing to help you if you meet with her. Reading the book is a waste of time because everything that you need, you will receive in class. Although it is a good backup source and helpful for lab. Lab, three hours, is actually pretty fun, better than anatomy. I recommend taking notes when the lab instructor is teaching you how to do something as the checklists don't have everything that you need on them. You will forget a lot of important details by the final lab exam and your notes will come in handy.
