An incredibly chill course with an incredibly chill professor. Even though this is Theory I, some background musical knowledge is certainly required. 17 assignments and two projects that have to be completed by the end of the semester. Each class, the professor follows the content in the reader and explains a new concept. Every unit or so, there would be an assignment which were not difficult but at times were tedious. Professor Maus was always available to speak to after class or over email. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does check to see who shows up week to week. A good number of the assignments can be completed in class as he explains the topic(s) of the day if you are so inclined. The assignments ranged from writing chords and their inversions to writing melodies for given harmonies. The projects are subjective and require listening to a musical piece and following the given instructions. This is not your typical theory class, but one I came to appreciate as the semester went along.
