Don't take this class. It's a waste of time and it's poorly taught. Aaron may be a good musician, but he is not a good teacher. He has little control over the homework and test materials (he can't design them) so it's hard to translate what you learn in class to the homework. He doesn't explain things well at all and can't play piano well enough to demonstrate what something sounds like. He then solves the problem of you being confused by giving you more graded homework assignments. The material itself wouldn't be as difficult if it was explained properly. The class itself is very boring and seems to take the fun out of music. He takes attendance as part of your grade, and you have regular homework assignments (which took me hours to figure out), quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final. If you want to learn the basics of music, you'd be better off buying a book and learning from that.
Totally agree with the review below. I took this course in the hopes that it would be an easy way to fulfill the Fine Arts requirement for the College, but it was definitely not. Aaron definitely knows music and the material, but has no clue how to teach it to students. I was often left frustrated and annoyed during class and while doing the homework because nothing made sense. The title of "Basic Musical Skills" is very misleading...we learned basic skills for the first week and then switched to what seemed like music theory. I would recommend taking this course with a different instructor or just finding a different course to fulfill the Fine Arts requirement.
