This is probably one of the few "easy" A's that you can possibly take. However, if you neglect it at all, that A can easily become an A-/B+. The first exam is by far the easiest, and pretty much everyone thinks the rest of the class will be a similar difficulty. Don't fall into that trap. Decker is a nice guy, trying to connect with students with some remarks. Office hours were a barren wasteland. Textbook not needed if you attend almost all of the lectures and take notes. Make sure you check your homework before turning it in. Overall, an easy A if you put in the necessary work and don't neglect it.
Honestly, I have an easier time getting As in classes you probably shouldn't get As in (like econ or calc) than these "easier" classes that UVA has. To be perfectly honest, I thought Jeff Decker was a good lecturer but as the semester went on he just seemed increasingly rude if you talked to him after class and asked legitimate questions. Apparently, he though his paid time was 9:00-9:50 and if you talked to him outside that window then you were wasting his time. Not the best class to take at 9 in the morning if you're tired because if you don't pick up on something you better hope you can figure it out later. I got an A- mainly because I messed up the second test (I wrote something down from class incorrectly which ended up being a significant part of the test), otherwise I would have easily had a high A. Make flashcards, study the notes, and you'll be fine. Like I said, I guess sometimes I feel as though getting an A is more important in more important classes. But, if you need a GPA booster, look here.
OK. Easy A- class, gotta put some more effort for that A. I got a 94.7 (whew...) because i think a 94 was an A. 10 homework assignments and 3 quizzes and a final. Class is easy if you pay attention and take notes and show up. like seriously, take good notes cause that's what the quiz and final will be about. Don't screw up a HW or a quiz cause that will drag your grade down. HW is easy but double cheek. Also, after the last quiz, still take good notes cause your gonna need that for the final. Also, don't slack off or you will be confused and don't underestimate this class cause you will regret it. Overall I would recommend this class.
This is a great class! There is hardly any work (just one or two hw assignments per week that take like half an hour) and the professor is cool. He loves to play instruments and use a mix of modern and older music when talking about topics. I would definitely recommend this class, especially if you have no musical experience and just want to learn the basics; it's an easy A.
This is probably the easiest class at UVA, and Professor Decker seems to know that. There's 1-2 assignments a week that take ~15 minutes each and can be turned in late, and the material is super easy, especially if you have even the slightest musical background. No projects or papers. The homeworks are given out in class, so attendance is more or less mandatory unless you are okay with missing one and getting the late penalty (which is only 10%). If you're trying to decide between 3310 (Music Theory) and this class, I'd go with 3310 because this class will waste your time unless you want the easiest A UVA has to offer.
