I took global music as a first year and it was my favorite class of the semester. Very enjoyable lectures, you basically go and discuss a certain type of music while listening to samples of that genre. Discussions were a little unnecessary in my opinion but they do factor into your grade so I would recommend going. The exams were take-home papers with very specific prompts that guided you in the right direction organization and thesis-wise. Overall, an easy introduction to the world's musics and an enjoyable and relaxed class.
