For me, this course was food media. It was my favorite class by far! The topic is so interesting, and the readings due each week were engaging and minimal. That being said, I never read the readings and still ended with an A, since you are never evaluated on the readings in any way and there are no participation points. Although, the professor seems to take note of and appreciate when you do participate. All the assignments were easy as long as you put your best effort in. They are spaced out throughout the semester, so it's not stressful. There are five assignments total that make up your grade, with the final one being an 8-12 page essay about a topic of your choice. This was the only daunting task. The professor is so nice and understanding and will do what she can to help you on the assignments. Highly recommend!
My favorite class of the semester! The subject area is so fun and interesting, and Professor Rao is awesome. Grading is based on participation, one reading response, one joke journal, a final project, and a presentation about the final project to get feedback from the class. The joke journal is for each student to explain something comical that happened to them in real life and you will have to read it aloud in class, but I personally didn't mind that. Homework was actually fun because it was partially about theory but mostly involved watching different forms of comedy (late night shows, standup, Netflix specials, etc). Professor Rao really engaged the whole class and created a comfortable environment for discussing comedic topics that are typically taboo in academic settings. Can't say enough good things about Professor Rao and this class!
