This is required for the Distinguished Majors Program, so I didn't have a choice in taking this course. Professor knew what she was talking about, but at the same time, took up much class time just talking and didn't facilitate as much student discussion as I think she should've. Also, one time she completely tore apart one of our presentation groups for not doing the topic right while she couldn't even define the topic when asked. Not the biggest fan of the course, but if you have to take it, you have to take it.
This was one of the best courses I have ever taken at UVA. I think this is mostly due to the course content rather than the professor, though. Media theory has influenced how I understand intellectual thought and the world. For the first few months I was enraged with the abstruse nature of the content. Over time and with multiple readings you begin to understand. Andrea chose to have students lead discussions and select media examples, which was mostly effective and fun. I didn't receive any feedback throughout the semester (which was frustrating), but I am happy I did the MDST DMP if only for this course and the cohort. Sometimes you'll have nightmares from this course, but they're not induced by stress over assignments. This class reaffirmed that I wanted to major in Media Studies.
