I have pretty mixed thoughts on this class. On one hand the course material is phenomenally interesting and Gromoll is probably pretty close to a genius. On the other hand, he could have been a little more available and helpful overall.
The course grade is comprised entirely of 6 quizzes, and you know exactly what questions he's going to ask on each (he changes things around a little bit). If you're good at probability, you'll be fine if you spend a few hours a week figuring out these problems.
It's a graduate level mathematics class, and you'll realize on the very first day of class that Gromoll certainly teaches it like one. He expects you to be 100% fluent with linear algebra, and class time is comprised almost entirely of proofs. You can get by with just understanding the key concepts in class and then learning the rest on your own.
Try to make a friend on the first day of class and form a study group to go over the problems .... it helps a lot.
This class contains very interesting material that can be applied to a wide array of areas. However, Gromoll only scratched the surface with what can be done with this type of mathematics.
This class contained 6 "quizzes" (spaced 2-3 weeks apart) that comprised your entire grade for the class. You're allowed to use homework write-ups on these quizzes, but make sure to go to office hours to ensure you have the right answer (the book we used did not have a Key).
