Axel is such a great guy, but can be a bit confusing during lectures. This could just be because Probability is a tough subject all on it's own, but Axel definitely did not make the difficult concepts any easier. If you don't need to take MATH 3100, DO NOT take it. If you do and end up with Axel, it isn't the end of the world, just don't get behind and try to find some help from outside sources.
Probability is definitely not an enjoyable or easily understandable subject and Axel certainly doesn't make it any better. Axel is very smart and surprisingly funny and although I liked him as a person, he didn't do a great job of explaining difficult concepts. Axel loved to solve proofs during class and there were times when he would solve a proof for some 20 minutes before telling everyone frantically copying down what he wrote that we didn't actually have to know it for the test. About a third of your grade is made up of homeworks as well as "pop" quizzes which he often told us about ahead of time towards the end of the semester. The exams were pretty difficult with averages in the 70's but one benefit to having Axel is that he is very generous when it comes to giving partial credit. Additionally, the class was curved very generously and despite having performed average on the exams I got an A-. Overall I wouldn't recommend this class but if you are a math/stat major you likely have no choice.
