Lloyd West taught the class. It was miserable. You learn theorems. All of which are in the book. You do not learn how to use the theorems in any useful manner. He is pretty arrogant. The homework and discussions are pointless. He gives you one practice problem per subject and expects you to master an entire topic with one problem. DO NOT take this class with him. He also has you write a research paper on math related topics for extra credit, only this extra credit assignment is worth 5% of your actual grade. The grade is based on two midterms a final and homework. I failed the two midterms but got a C+ in the class because of the curve.
At the time I wrote this, the professor name was not visible but I believe this is Lloyd West. Overall, he's a great professor. He might introduce difficult concepts but it will make sense at some point. During the first two weeks we talked about spherical/cylindrical coordinates and had us do homework that wanted us to draw objects in 3D. Don't panic because you don't need to master imagining these until the end. He introduces it at the beginning so you don't get shocked and can't do any of the actual calculus. His exams are REALLY FAIR and he tells you what to expect on it. Pay attention in lecture and don't skip or you will be completely lost.
Towards the end of the semester, he taught us an advanced method of doing the last few topics. He said that it will make calculations much simpler and it did. The way he teaches is great and if you go to office hours and ask questions he will try to explain things better.
If you ever confused, you can always send him an email and he will set an appointment with you but you have to take the initiative and start on the homework early so that you can ask him early on. Homeworks usually have one or two questions that are somewhat difficult and so start on the homework before the discussion session so you ask the TA questions.
Overall, West is a great professor and wants to help his students as much as possible. Take as many classes with him as possible.
