I liked math before this class. Bogdan assigns way too much homework and grades the written portion harshly. His lectures are confusing and I guess I learn a thing or two but not as much as I would like. The exams are very difficult unless you study hard for them and even then he would find a way to make it tough. When his lectures were not tough, they were mad boring. Bogdan is not a good teacher and doesn't seem to care for your grade.
The worst. Lectures were so confusing and he always would make simple mistakes then spend so much time trying to find his mistakes. He had weekly quizzes at discussion which were okay but the worksheet before the quiz usually had nothing to do with the quiz itself. On his homeworks he assigned 2-4 webassign problem sets a week in addition to written homework sets. He graded the written homeworks so tough and it's pretty hard to get a 100 for written hws. His exams were pretty insane. First exam average was like a 65. On a lot of questions he would take off points if you didn't show simple steps, but his exams were so long that writing out those steps would waste too much time. On a few problems I actually had the write final answer and I tried to ask him what was wrong and he just told me it's not worth arguing over. Really tough teacher who didn't care about whether his students were learning and he was really only at UVA for his PhD. Surprised if he comes back in the fall
This is the worst class I've ever taken. He teaches nothing in class and when people ask questions, he doesn't answer them. The written homeworks are graded very harshly for no reason. There's no reason to go to office hours or try to talk to him after class as he doesn't help at all. The exams were insanely hard even after studying for them for 20+ hours. His grading is confusing and he doesn't explain anything when asked. He does not care about students at all and doesn't even look back from the chalkboard during lecture. He just writes his notes on the board without caring if students are even following, which we weren't. I heard all the other calc III professors were good, please take it with anyone but this professor.
As far as UVA's crappy math dept. goes (at least for teaching) Krstic was not too bad. I sat in the front so I found it easy to focus and follow along; though he did speed up as the semester continued. There is a substantial amount of webassigns for this course (like between 25 and 50 questions a week), plus a weekly written homework assignment with questions from the textbook. I found this class frustrating, however, I did improve by the end of the semester. He is helpful at office hours if you have a specific question from homework or something like that, conceptually ... just read through your notes and/or the online textbook. Much better than my calc2 prof.
Professor Krstic was an ok lecturer but was also willing to answer questions and explain anything. The first exams in this class were kind of tough but there was a curve, although it wasn't always very helpful. My main issue with this class was the amount of work. The WebAssign and the written homework easily took over 4 hours. But the extra 10% credit for each WebAssign makes it a bit more worthwhile so I guess it was a fair trade-off. The written homework was graded a little harshly sometimes but other than that just be ready to work a little harder than for some of the other professors.
