I got a 5 on AP Calc AB in high school, and expected to do just as well in college and maybe even major in math. This class changed all that. Kleski was fine, he knows the stuff and is organized and has really nice hand-writing. There was a online WebWork HW set every week in addition to a few harder written homework problems. Luckily I got 100% for the 30% of your final grade that HW is thanks to the Discussion section (seriously wouldn't have been able to do all the HW without it), but I ended up with a B+ in the class because there are tons of people in the class who have all seen the material before who mess up the one curve we got on a test, and the tests ask questions that were sometimes really unexpected and different than the HW and test review problems. I would REALLY suggest taking Applied Calc unless you absolutely can't because this class just isn't worth the pain.
This class was HARD. No really- it's tough. I took BC Calc in high school and expected to have no problem with calc 2...boy was I wrong. Kleski was a really good teacher (moved quick but what can you expect) and Josh was incredibly helpful explaining the homework but the tests were impossible. My advice would be to skip this course if you can...
To be honest, I had only taken AB in high school and thought about switching to 122 the after the first lecture, but I was glad I stayed with it. The TA helped a ton on the problem sets. The professor was great, but it was necessary to go to office hours since he moved pretty quickly. I think I had a better time in 132 than most of my friends did in 122 because you don't get a TA in 122 or as personalized instruction. Kleski is a really nice guy. Also, he is more than willing to go over midterms and help you prepare for the final.
Craig is a good teacher and he always makes time during his lecture to ask if everyone understands. He never makes students feel stupid; however, the class if just hard. The material is definitely not easy, I got a 5 on the AB Calc exam just last year and I struggled in this course. However, Kleski is one of the best teachers here, considering it is one of the most failed classes at UVA. Also: if you fail the first exam, don't worry, it does get easier! I wouldn't recommend the class but if necessary for a major, Kleski is a good choice.
Kleski is awesome. He's really nice and he knows what he's talking about. He is a very clear teacher and you will learn the material if you pay attention. Very approachable for asking questions. That being said, this is a difficult course and, while I really liked it, you won't if you don't like math. Best math class I've taken thus far.
It's obvious that Kleski is very knowledgable in his field. Also, he could quite possibly be one of the most intelligent people at this university. That being said, his lectures are very informative (but he moves very fast). Even if you consider yourself a math person, don't expect this to be easy by any means. Homework sets can be grueling and tests are very tricky. After taking this course, you'll see why it's the most failed class at UVA.
Only take Calc II with Kleski! He is a really good teacher, and he is a really smart guy. The exams themselves are standardized and extremely hard. However, Kleski gives excellent curves (some other teachers don't give any curves in this class). The material is hard and it takes a lot of practice to get good at it. Do the homework, pay attention in class, and ask questions and you should end up with a decent grade, especially if you're near the top of your class.
