Absolutely do not take Applied Calc II with Weaver. During class, he'll barely get through two examples of the new material and then assign the most absurd webassigns and written homeworks. What ends up happening is half the class is sitting in his tiny office for office hours as he explains these other ways of doing the problems that he "meant to get around to in class." He grades the quizzes ruthlessly, taking off points for every little error whether it be a missing parentheses or not putting +- in front of a square root. This class is literally the bane of my existence. DO NOT TAKE.
So you think you are decent at math and are taking this course to fulfill your last math requirement. Taking Applied Calc II with Weaver is not an enjoyable experience. He grades his quizzes and written homework unnecessarily hard where at the end of the problem you wonder if there was even a point to getting the right answer when down the line you missed a notational point and it cascaded to you receiving 2/6 on the question. The only thing that can possibly save your grade in the class are the web-assign, midterms, and final which in comparison to his quizzes and written homework are an absolute cake wake. Still getting a 95% > on all three combined assignments (make sure to keep your web-assign at 100% as it is an easy free booster) does not make up for the near 60% avg you will have on your written hw and quizzes (20% of your grade) so aiming for an A or A- is far from easy and essentially impossible. Going to office hours for explanations on the written hw is seemingly useless as despite going through every single problem with him for the written hw you would still end up with getting a C through F grade. The worst realization however is when you walk into the exams and chat with people in other classes and hear "what are you talking about? We don't get written homework and our web-assigns are generally short, like around 15-20 questions." numbers and statements that I would have never associated with my Applied Calc II class with Weaver.
Weaver is good and bad in certain ways... His written homework and quizzes are very difficult. It is hard to maintain a B average in that section of the class. His web assigns are tough, but doable - can get an A in web assign portion of class if you work hard. While Weaver is tough in the things we do for his specific section, the Midterms and Final are much easier. He is very tough and makes this makes the actual exams (which are the same for all sections) a joke. His class is boring too, but I feel like all math classes are boring. Take Weaver if you think you are solid at math and can handle his in class quizzes and homeworks because he will get you a good grade on exams.
