All of the "professors" for these math courses are actually just grad students who don't know a thing about teaching math. I feel like this class is pretty unavoidable if you want to do anything pre-med or pre-comm or really just most majors so sorry that you're going to have to go through this misery. My piece of advice would be GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! You are assigned written homework every week that is about ten times harder than any of the webassign homework you are given and they are graded out of 100. If you go to office hours the teachers will practically just give you the answers and you'll get good grades. I made the mistake of not going to office hours for the first few weeks and my grade definitely suffered because of that. The webassign homework is alright. The tests on the other hand are also very difficult unless you go over the practice tests inside and out. The final was impossible honestly. I think I'll get a B for this semester and I did not have prior Calculus experience. Have fun :)
Literally the worst person to teach math at UVA. Mathew Feller is a seemly shy graduate student. One the first day of classes he rushed into the classroom almost late and he doesn't even introduce himself to the class. The class is very tiresome and his explanations are more complicated that what they actually should be. He doesn't quite smile, but I saw him smile once during office hours. There are times where he messed up during his teaching and students have to correct him. He often says "um." Feller doesn't seem like a bad person outside of class, he just needs more trying when trying to teach college students. He's pretty fair about homework being turned in after the due date as long as you as for an extension before the due date.
Okay the two people below me need to chill the class isn't that hard, especially if you have prior Calculus knowledge, which I think most people do. Feller isn't a bad teacher, he is a little awkward, but if you want something explained to you he does a fine job. If you take good notes in class he explains everything you need to know and you don't really need to read the book unless you are very unclear about something, but I found him to be a better teacher than the book.
