this class was absolutely horrible and perhaps the most confusing grading system I have ever witnessed. If you are not adept at calculus you will suffer as you only gain credit for getting everything correct on a problem set. getting a single mistake on a single problem on a page with multiple problems will cause the entire section to be worth 0. make that make sense. Also these grad students are genuinely incompetent. My instructor said in class "sometimes I get 2+2 wrong" like bro what do you mean. I am about to get a c in this class because I make a single mistake on a problem and then the entire page is worth 0 even if you get eveyrthing else correct. Do not take this class it genuinely should be abolished from the school.
This class was really hard and took up a lot of time. The grading was super strict, and it felt like no matter how much effort I put in, it didn’t help my grade much. I’ve taken calculus before, so I thought I’d understand it better, but a lot of the topics didn’t make sense. The teacher didn’t always explain things clearly, and the assignments were really long and confusing. Sometimes it felt like we were expected to know things that weren’t even taught. There wasn’t much help when we had questions, and the tests were really tough. I spent so many hours trying to figure things out on my own. Overall, I highly would not recommend this class unless you absolutely have to take it. It was stressful and frustrating, and there are probably better options out there that actually help you learn instead of just making you feel lost.
My instructor was Susan Mitchell and she was a good teacher. I took both calculus 1 and 2 in high school but needed to take this course to get credit for my major so it was very easy. There are weekly homeworks and 2 group assignments. There are pre-class assignments which are kind of annoying especially if you know the material already but most get posted a lot ahead of time so i would just speedrun through them. I was a growth-based student and i found this structure to be very easy because i could retake questions i did not do well on during the next exam. #tCFS25
