As a guy considering finance as a potential career path for later, I'm glad I took the opportunity to enroll in Financial Mathematics with Mark last semester. Much of what you will learn is completely applicable to typical questions you encounter every day regarding your personal finances. Among the topics we touched on included annuities, interest, mortgages, and stocks. The course itself is pretty straightforward and manageable if you put about two hours in every week to understand the material, and Mark offers a plethora of office hours if you have any questions about it. If you have even a passing interest in finance, I highly recommend you enroll in this class. If not, the skills you will learn will still be very useful down the road.
There is not many ways to make Financial Math interesting, but Mark Lewers tried his best. He made himself available to his students during office hours, which were especially helpful before exams. The only homework was weekly problem sets, but they could be confusing and therefore time consuming. The material is not hard, and I work recommend this for anyone who is not a math person but needs to fulfill the requirement.
