Translating in this class was pretty easy but Professor Hays did not make the class fun. He wasn't engaging and often was mean or cold to students. He interrupted people a lot too. I felt like he didn't prepare us well for the final essay (partially because we didn't finish the book and partially because he didn't talk about many external connections). The book was good and reading a manuscript was cool though.
Hays is amazing! TAKE HIM FOR ALL LATIN CLASSES. This is a tues/thurs course. On Tuesday's you'll talk about the process of making manuscripts and the different types of handwriting and scripts used. It sounds boring, but Hays makes it really interesting and lets class discussion wander wherever students want to take it. On Thursday you translate the Gospel of Nichodemus, which is super easy. This class is really slow paced, laid-back, and fun.
