This class is hard and is not your typical ENWR. The first half of the class is manageable, but the second half is really difficult. Absolutely nobody in our class knew what was going on or felt confident in our final paper that is worth 35% of the final grade. Carter is a nice professor and is really passionate about linguistics and rhetoric, but his instructions are often unclear. You start by writing a rhetorical analysis for the first paper (relatively straightforward), but the second paper is a research paper (yes a research paper) about linguistic differences and how they are impactful in two different discipline's rhetorical situation.
Most people I know did not get an A on both papers, leaving the class in B to A- territory. I think there are much more enjoyable writing classes in the english department unless you are super passionate about rhetoric/linguistics and theory. Not worth it in my opinion unless you need it for your major or minor.
