This was a class that I took because I took as it's a requirement for my engineering degree. As someone who isn't really interested in many classes outside of engineering, and someone who very much felt that STS1500 was a waste of time, I enjoyed this class more than expected. Some of the moral and ethical theories were interesting and provide a unique way to approach ethical challenges. As an instructor, I believe Professor Davis is still newer to the department, but it seems he has made it easier to get a good grade in the class (wherein before it was either B or A he introduced ways to get B+ and A-). As a professor Davis is extremely welcoming and encourages diverse opinions in discussion or debate. Additionally, I found that if you do all the assignments it is not difficult to get an A.
This class is very easy to get an A in. The class structure is set up a little weird, as to get an A, you have to have "four high passes on the four assignments," which basically just means you do the assignment + the little extra bit that he asks you to do, "four extra credit assignments," which means you go to four out-of-class guest lectures and write a like half-page essay about what you learned, and you go to class every day. I love Professor Davis, he is probably my favorite professor that I have had at UVA so far, and he makes his class very interesting every single time. My only downside is that there is a lot of out-of-class reading and writing, but the free A makes up for it.
