Loncke is an absolute sweetheart. Even better, this class is an easy A. Everything's graded super leniently, so as long as you put some effort and just do the little work that there is, you'll get a 100. The two and half hour lecture may seem daunting, but he's a very engaging professor. He gives breaks and he always let us out early. You'll have to present with a group twice near the end of the semester, but that's also very low-stakes and easy to get a 100 on. You don't need any prior linguistics background (or any prior background of anything tbh). What you learn is so straightforward that you don't really even need to take notes if you just pay attention in class (he posts all his slides). There are two exams (one midterm, one final), but both are take-home, open-note, and completely short answer. We had the option of writing an 8-10 page paper for our final instead of the short answer exam if we wanted to. I chose to write the paper because we already had all the information to write it from our presentations, and he graded that super leniently as well.
If you need an easy A or an easy linguistics requirement, then this is a wonderful course!
